First check and make sure that you've got good suction by feeling at the top of the wand. If there is no or poor suction there, you might want to wash and let dry your motor filter. See your manual for help with this. Also, check to make sure the all of the connections that have a gasket between them are tight. If you have suction at the wand, the most likely cause is stretched belts. The belts on these two models are actually made inside of a clutch mechanism. This clutch mechanism is what allows you to turn off the roller brush so that you can use the suction only to vacuum your non-carpeted floor surfaces.  What we are seeing is that after about 3 or 4 years, the clutch needs to be replaced. This will bring back the great performance that you've come to expect from your Dyson vacuum cleaner. Call Dyson to find the nearest factory authorized repair center. Most likely the cause is stretched belts or a broken or dirty brush roller. Flip the vacuum cleaner over and inspect the brush roller. Does it move freely? If not you may want to clean or replace it. DO NOT REMOVE THE BRUSH ROLLER without first purchasing a belt lifter tool. If you do, you will find it virtually impossible to get it back under the belt. You can find the belt lifter tool online. If the brush roller is good, the cause could be stretched belts. First, remove the cyclone assembly or dirt chamber and lift up the latch that holds the motor filter in place. Is the motor filter dirty? Try cleaning and drying it. Do you still not have suction? The most likely cause is the black rubber gasket in the bottom inside portion of your dirt container has shifted. If it has shifted it has allowed large particles of dirt to get up inside the cyclone chamber. There is no easy way to clean this out. We haven't found anyway to open this chamber to clean it without ruining it. It must be replaced. Call Dyson to find the nearest factory authorized repair center.

Most likely the belt is broken or the motor that turns the belt is bad. Flip the vacuum over and remove the sole plate by turning the thumbnail screws. Look at the belt. If it is broken, you can replace it. But, be aware that Dyson has redesigned the belt and the roller brush on this Model. If you do find a place that sells the belt by itself, check it carefully to make sure that it is the same width as your old one. If it is not, you will need to replace the roller brush as well. Or, take it to the nearest factory authorized repair center. Back to top.

There are several possible causes for this. None of them are do it yourself projects. Please take it to the nearest factory authorized repair center. Back to top.

Most likely, your belt is stretched and needs to be replaced.
It also could be that your roller brush has seized and is burning your belt. Look for our how to change your own belt videos coming soon on youtube. Otherwise, take it to your friendly neighborhood vacuum repair shop. Back to top.

This is a difficult problem. If you've got a bagged vacuum, try replacing the bag after every use. If you have a bagless vacuum, make sure to empty the dirt chamber after every use. And of course, try not to ever vacuum up urine or feces in your vacuum cleaner. Check out our "Bob's Picks" page for some better choices in vacuum cleaning technology for your next vacuum purchase. Most likely, your filters are clogged with fine dirt and hair. Try cleaning and drying them. If this doesn't bring back your suction, check your hose for blockages. When you grow tired of maintaining your bagless vacuum,

Dirt has gotten into the motor bearings and is impairing the free movement of the inside spinning portion of the motor that creates the suction. Generally speaking, it is cheaper to buy a new vacuum than it is to replace the motor in yours. Time for a new vacuum.
